Exploring Yoga Philosophy: Saucha
In yoga philosophy, Saucha—the practice of cleanliness—is one of the foundational Niyamas, or personal observances. While it’s sometimes discussed in terms of mental clarity or the simplicity of our surroundings, Saucha also invites us to care for our physical bodies in a way that supports our own comfort and the comfort of the community around us.
At the studio, we move, breathe, sweat, and share space. The warmth we create in the room and the closeness of practice mean that our individual habits naturally ripple outwards. Practicing Saucha becomes a way of saying: I honor my body, and I honor the people practicing beside me.
Saucha can be practiced many ways in daily life as a way to care for ourselves and those around us through intentional habits. This can look like:
Arriving to class with a fresh layer of deodorant or a clean change of clothes
Wiping down your yoga mat and props after each time you practice
Wearing clean, comfortable clothing that supports movement
Taking a moment to refresh after work, the gym, or a long day
Our Saucha Station is available for use inside the practice room, and is regularly stocked with deodorant and personal hygiene items. Help yourself to anything you need, and thank you for helping us maintain a comfortable practice space for all!
